It’s not enough to be Gay friendly. Gay informed and positive regard supports clients by building a stronger therapeutic relationship. LGBTQ+ Affirmative Counseling takes the position that there is nothing wrong with the LGBTQ+ person. What is wrong is what was done to the LGBTQ+ individuals and couples.
Mel has training and experience in working with LGBTQ+ individuals and couples to affirm their sexual orientation and gender identity.
LGBTQIA Affirming Therapy embraces a positive view of sexual orientation and gender identity. I provide a safe space and encourage personal freedom. Being Queer, Bi, Pan, or Trans does not have to be an obstacle toward finding good mental health services. Heteronormative assumptions and influences create unnecessary stress. My goal in therapy is to validate you and provide support.
Depression, suicidal thoughts, and substance abuse and addiction are particularly common among youth who identify as LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning) or elsewhere on the LGBTQ+ continuum. To make matters worse, transgender youth are particularly at high risk for suicide. These statistics are troubling, but there is hope.
If you are 18 years or older and struggle with suicidal thoughts, seek out care from Mel Brezovsky, a licensed mental health professional.
